Mutations in one sentence

A Mutation is a special variant on an Egg / Animal that multiplies earnings. In +1 Strength for Eggs, six mutations matter — three from natural rolls and three gated behind weather. Each Egg or pet carries one mutation; the Egg’s mutation transfers to the Animal when you hatch.

Priority for almost every account: Rainbow > Diamond > Gold ≈ Hacked ≈ Lava ≈ Toxic. Rainbow’s 3x clears the pack and is the rarest natural roll; Diamond’s 2.5x is the runner-up; the four 2x mutations are situational but still excellent upgrades over base Animals. Full ranks: Mutations Tier List.

How to spot mutated Eggs

Natural visuals (Gold, Diamond, Rainbow)

• Gold — look for a clearly yellow Egg. Grab it whenever volume farming; 2x is always worth banking.
• Diamond — look for a clearly blue Egg. Prefer Diamond over duplicate Gold when board slots are tight.
• Rainbow — look for a dynamic / shifting color effect. This is the rarest natural mutation and the only 3x. Cancel side quests, extract to the Safe Zone, hatch, and place immediately.

Species rarity and mutation are separate. A common-biome Rainbow still beats a late-biome base Egg for Cash multipliers.

Weather mutants — read the nameplate

Hacked, Lava, and Toxic Eggs often look like ordinary Eggs. Their shell color does not reliably change. Identify them by the text above the Egg’s name (Hacked / Lava / Toxic on the nameplate). During the matching weather, scan nameplates before you commit to a contested steal — color-only scanning will miss weather mutants.

Weather does not re-roll mutations onto Animals already sitting in your pen. You must find mutated Eggs on the map, carry them home, and hatch. Pets you already placed stay as they are until you replace them.

Natural mutations (Gold, Diamond, Rainbow)

Natural mutations can appear without a special sky. You still need the basics:

1. Enough Strength to break into biomes that actually spawn Eggs (walls).
2. Successful carries to the Safe Zone / base (Safe Zone Egg Carry).
3. Hatch the Egg into an Animal and place it so the multiplier earns Cash (including offline).

Farm volume matters. More Eggs hatched means more natural rolls. That is why mid-game players push Desert → Arctic → Volcano routes instead of AFKing only in Forest after they have the Strength for more. Speed & Carry Upgrades and Farm Expansion help you bank and seat the wins.

Weather mutations (Hacked, Lava, Toxic)

Hacked, Lava, and Toxic mutations are tied to their matching weather events. When that weather is active, prioritize Egg runs that can roll the weather mutation instead of slow base upgrades. Remember: nameplate first, then extract.

Prep before weather:

• Break walls in advance so you are not soft-locked when the event starts.
• Clear inventory / board space for new hatches (Farm Expansion if slots are full).
• Bring your best Dumbbell and know Safe Zone paths on 5-player servers.
• Keep a Cash buffer for emergency Animal upgrades after a mutated hatch.

Step-by-step: hatch a mutated Animal

1. Train with your strongest owned Dumbbell until the target biome wall breaks.
2. Enter the biome during the correct condition (any time for natural; matching weather for Hacked/Lava/Toxic).
3. Spot the mutation — yellow / blue / dynamic for naturals; nameplate text for weather mutants.
4. Secure the Egg — steal if needed, but only if you can still reach the Safe Zone.
5. Carry to Safe Zone / base without greed detours.
6. Hatch the Egg. The pet inherits that single mutation from the Egg.
7. Confirm the mutation tag (Gold / Diamond / Rainbow / Hacked / Lava / Toxic).
8. Place the Animal on your farm and upgrade it — multipliers scale a strong base better than a neglected one.
9. Claim index rewards if the variant is new (Animal Index, Animals Hub).

Failed carries are the #1 mutation killer. A Rainbow Egg lost mid-map is just a story you tell in trade chat.

Priority rules (what to chase first)

1. Rainbow (3x) — always highest priority when available; rarest natural.
2. Diamond (2.5x) — best natural runner-up; keep over most 2x duplicates.
3. Any missing 2x while weather lasts — Hacked / Lava / Toxic windows are temporary; read nameplates.
4. Gold (2x) — still a large upgrade; farm passively via volume.
5. Replace non-mutated weak Animals first (Best Animals).

Do not sell your only Diamond to “make space” for a random base Egg. Sell duplicates that lose to your board.

How mutations stack with Rebirth and Dumbbells

Mutations multiply Animal Cash (earning rate and sale value). Rebirth multiplies Cash gains globally while keeping Dumbbells. Together they are the endgame engine: mutated board + rebirth multipliers → afford Mythic through Celestial Dumbbells → break late walls → more Eggs → more mutation rolls.

If you rebirth right before weather without placing fresh mutated hatches, you waste the best part of the event. Hatch → place → then consider rebirth.

Biome notes for mutation hunting

Higher biomes generally mean better Egg stakes and more competition:

• Early: Forest, Beach, Desert — safer natural farming
• Mid: Arctic, Volcano — hotter contests on 5-player servers
• High: Void, Cloudlands, Ancient Egypt — bring enough Strength and a clear extract path

Mistakes to avoid

• Scanning only shell color during Hacked / Lava / Toxic weather (misses nameplate mutants)
• Expecting weather to mutate pets already in the pen
• Ignoring weather banners while grinding a low-value shop item
• Hoarding mutated Eggs unhatched
• Placing Rainbow on a terrible upgrade path then never spending Cash on it
• Fighting hopeless steals instead of taking free Eggs elsewhere
• Assuming scripts guarantee mutations — they do not remove RNG or ToS risk (Scripts)
